I have started this post so many times and have never hit publish because I couldn’t seem to find the right words.
Today, I figure that I am just going to say what is on my mind.
When I joined Twitter many years ago (2009), it was a positive place to share ideas and learning. Sure, we would get into some disagreements but it was always respectful and nobody took it personally. We grew and learned by sharing and challenging ideas. Twitter was also a place where we would share the great things that were happening in our lives and in our schools.
Now, when I look at Twitter, I see a ton of negative stuff. I find that this really zaps my energy. I want to reply to some of this negative posts but then I always think that it won’t help, it will only add to the negativity.
We need to take Twitter back. I keep hearing the words of my friend George Couros who says, “We need to make the positive so loud that the negative is almost impossible to hear.”
Yes…this is a time of change in our province. New curriculum (possibly), new Education Act, new LQS and TQS, new Provincial government, budget uncertainty, the list goes on. It is a time when we need to remember why we do what we do. Last year in our school division, we sparked a social media campaign in which we shared the awesome things that were happening in our schools. Trust me…when you work in a school, you don’t have to go too far to find something that is awesome and inspiring.
Ok…I think I have said what I needed to say and I am satisfied with the way that came out. I’m going to hit “publish.”
